Advancing the philosophical heritage of the heartland through rigorous scholarship, public discourse, and community engagement. Exploring pragmatism, ethics, political thought, and the unique intellectual landscape of Mid-America.
Founded in 2021, the Ohio Institute of Mid-American Philosophy (OIMAP) is an independent center for advanced study.
The Institute is dedicated to the preservation, critical examination, and creative advancement of the philosophical traditions that have emerged from and shaped the Mid-American experience. We believe the unique confluence of pragmatic thought, transcendentalist spirit, agrarian values, and democratic ideals in this region offers vital insights for the 21st century.
Our faculty and fellows engage in interdisciplinary research bridging philosophy, history, literature, political theory, and environmental studies. We host renowned scholars, offer public lectures and seminars, publish original research, and foster a vibrant intellectual community.
In 2026, we are launching our flagship Fellowship in Applied Heartland Ethics, supporting projects that address contemporary social, technological, and environmental challenges from a grounded, Mid-American philosophical perspective.
